Dear Friends of Shelters of Saratoga,
Hello, my name is Renee. I am a 49 year-old single mom who has been employed by Saratoga Hospital for almost two years. I own my own car, pay my own rent, and have a beagle puppy and a very precious 12 year-old daughter living with me. I also have five successful adult children and five beautiful grandchildren that are now part of my life.
Two years ago, I had no clothes or shoes except for what was on my back. I was newly sober from a long fought battle with alcohol. I was scared, terribly damaged and broken with absolutely no hope. My life had become meaningless and dark. My family was done with me and I was sure that it was forever. I was alone and had nowhere to go.
When I was dropped off at Shelters of Saratoga (SOS), I was given clean clothes, food and a warm, safe bed to rest my weary, broken spirit and body. The staff, volunteers and other house guests at SOS gave me the unconditional love, patience, time and understanding that I so badly needed. I began to cry less and trust more. They guided me and walked with me into unknown territory. They gave me the hope and confidence to begin doing things on my own again.
Today, a year after leaving the SOS case managed shelter, I continue to trip and stumble, but they are still there to pick me up and dust me off. My life as I now know it, has become possible because of the angels that contribute to making SOS a place of hope. The angels that staff the shelter, the angels that fund the shelter, and us angels in the rough, that seek the safety of SOS 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That is what SOS is: an effort for a better tomorrow for all of us within the community.
Please consider making a gift to Shelters of Saratoga, as your donations help give another chance at life to people like me.
