Volunteers are an essential part of our mission. Without you, we couldn’t support people as well as we do. We are grateful for all the ways you want to give your time, talent, and treasures to enrich the lives of people facing homelessness in the Saratoga community. 

Volunteer Roles – Current Openings

Front Desk Volunteers

Front Desk Time Commitment:  Year-round, Monday-Friday from 8am to 12pm OR 12pm-4pm (excluding Wednesday shift from 12pm to 4pm)

Training shift occurs Wednesdays from 12pm-4pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet and interact with houseguests, community members, donors, and staff in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Answer and direct phone calls efficiently to the appropriate staff or department.
  • Accurately enter donation and inventory information into the system.
  • Promote a welcoming and pleasant experience for all guests, visitors, and staff.
  • Utilize basic computer skills to perform daily tasks and maintain records.  

Code Blue Meal Service

Job Title: Meal Service Volunteer

Time Commitment: November-April, nightly from 5:00-7:00 pm (You choose the days that work for you!) 

Overview: At Shelters of Saratoga, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of people facing homelessness in our community. We believe everyone deserves access to nutritious meals and the support they need to rebuild their lives. As a Meal Service Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in helping us achieve this mission by providing nourishing meals to those in need.

Key Responsibilities
Meal Service: Help distribute meals to individuals at our designated service locations. Show compassion and respect while interacting with clients, making them feel valued and cared for.

Clean-Up: Assist in cleaning and sanitizing the dining space after meal service to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.

Collaboration: Work as part of a dedicated team of volunteers and staff members to ensure smooth meal service operations. Collaborate with others to maximize efficiency and the quality of service.

Advocacy: Be an advocate for the homeless community by raising awareness of their needs and advocating for positive change in your community.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for helping individuals and a deep commitment to our mission.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a positive attitude and a willingness to adapt.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with diverse populations with respect and empathy.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Physical stamina for standing, lifting, and carrying food trays.

Please note: We take the safety of our guests, staff, and volunteers very seriously. Therefore, we are required by NYS to conduct a background check on all staff and volunteers.
