Stephanie Romeo, Executive Director
“From the beginning of my career, my focus has been engaging and helping less fortunate people who confront challenges often outside their control, and guide them along a path to sustained independence.”
The Shelters of Saratoga board of directors is proud to announce the appointment of Stephanie Romeo as the organization’s new executive director.
Romeo brings nine years of hands-on experience in the human services sector, including seven years with Shelters of Saratoga, serving most recently as the agency’s associate executive director. Her day-to-day management experience, organizational insight, and established community relationships are the foundation for her leadership qualifications to guide the agency’s mission forward.
“Stephanie’s personal commitment to Shelters of Saratoga and the people we serve is testament to the character and principles we believe are the right fit for our organization as we move forward,” said Peter Hopper, president of the Shelters of Saratoga board of directors. “She has been a vital resource for our success in the many roles she has played, taking on leadership positions in every program we provide, starting as a case manager, then program director, and leading to her senior position as associate executive director.”
A career of helping others
At Shelters of Saratoga, Romeo has designed programs, hired and trained staff, established organization policies, built and met annual and long-term budgets, and developed vital working relationships with community stakeholders. She has been a voice for those confronting homelessness and been a key contributor to the planning of the agency’s permanent Code Blue project currently in the final design and approval stages.
“From the beginning of my career, my focus has been engaging and helping less fortunate people who confront challenges often outside their control, and guide them along a path to sustained independence,” said Romeo. “The majority of my work has been here in Saratoga. I’ve learned and experienced that this community has a big heart and outstanding resources; it can be challenging but bringing that all together to fulfill our mission of helping and treating people with dignity is my personal mission.”
A dynamic human services agency
Shelters of Saratoga is a multi-faceted human services agency that provides one-on-one support and shelter for those facing homelessness. The organization operates two fully staffed emergency shelters, three supportive housing apartment buildings, community outreach initiatives, and its NYS Health Home care management program, along with Saratoga County’s Code Blue program. Advancing the permanent Code Blue shelter will be a top priority for Romeo’s leadership.
Romeo holds a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Studies from East Carolina University.
